There’s something absolutely magical about watching kids splash around in a pool that’s glowing with neon colors and twinkling lights! As a mom of three energetic boys, I’ve learned that a glow in the dark pool party is hands-down one of the most exciting ways to celebrate a birthday or just create an amazing summer memory. The combination of water, darkness, and glowing elements creates an experience that feels like pure magic!
Planning a glow in the dark pool party might seem overwhelming at first, but trust me, it’s so much easier than you think! With a few creative ideas and some simple supplies, you can transform your ordinary backyard pool into an extraordinary glowing paradise that your kids and their friends will never forget. Let’s dive into these amazing ideas that will make your party absolutely spectacular!
Glow Stick Pool Noodles

Pool noodles are already a pool party staple, but when you add glow sticks inside them, they become absolutely incredible! Simply cut a slit lengthwise down the pool noodle and insert activated glow sticks inside. The noodles will diffuse the light beautifully, creating these amazing glowing tubes that float around the pool!
My boys went absolutely crazy for these at our last glow in the dark pool party! They used them as light sabers, floating rafts, and even created glowing obstacle courses in the water. You can buy glow sticks in bulk online for super cheap, and pool noodles are available everywhere during summer. This is one of those ideas that delivers maximum wow factor with minimal effort!
Pro tip: Use different colored glow sticks in different noodles to create a rainbow effect in your pool. The kids can even claim their favorite colors and it helps you keep track of everyone in the dark!
Glowing Ice Cubes In The Beverage Station

Keep your drinks cool and glowing with LED ice cubes! These reusable plastic cubes light up when they touch liquid and create the coolest effect in clear cups. Set up a beverage station poolside with lemonade, fruit punch, or water, and let the kids watch their drinks glow from the inside!
I love setting out clear plastic cups so everyone can see their glowing beverages. The LED ice cubes come in different colors and some even change colors automatically! They’re waterproof, reusable, and last for hours. At our last party, the kids were so fascinated by their glowing drinks that they actually stayed hydrated all night – which is a total mom win!
You can create a whole glowing drink bar with different colored ice cubes for different beverages. Add some glow stick stirrers or neon straws to complete the look. It’s such a simple touch that makes everything feel more special and party-worthy!
Neon Body Paint And Face Paint

Nothing says glow party like neon body paint! Get some UV-reactive or glow-in-the-dark body paint that’s safe for skin and let the kids decorate themselves before jumping in the pool. You can create designs, write names, or just let them go wild with colorful handprints and swirls!
Make sure you get body paint that’s specifically labeled as water-resistant if you want it to last through swimming. Some paints are meant to wash off easily, while others are designed to stay on longer. I usually set up a painting station with brushes, sponges, and mirrors so the kids can get creative before the pool time starts!
The effect under black lights or in the darkness is absolutely stunning! My boys love painting themselves like superheroes or creating tribal designs. It’s also a great ice-breaker activity when guests first arrive at your glow in the dark pool party. Just have plenty of towels ready and maybe do this activity on a tarp or in an easy-to-clean area!
Floating Glow Sticks Everywhere

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best! Crack open a bunch of glow sticks and just toss them in the pool. They’ll float around creating this amazing constellation effect on the water’s surface. It’s like swimming in a sea of stars!
For our last glow in the dark pool party, I bought about 200 glow sticks in various colors and it was absolutely worth it! The kids loved diving down to grab them, trading colors with each other, and creating patterns with them. You can get bulk packs of glow sticks super cheap online, especially if you buy them off-season!
Try mixing different sizes – regular glow sticks, the thick ones, and even glow stick bracelets and necklaces. Some will float while others might sink a bit, creating layers of light throughout the pool. The effect is mesmerizing and creates the perfect ambiance for nighttime swimming!
Underwater LED Lights

Invest in some submersible LED lights and watch your pool transform into a glowing wonderland! These battery-operated lights sink to the bottom of the pool and illuminate the water from below with color-changing effects. They’re absolutely game-changing for a glow in the dark pool party!
I was amazed at how much these lights transformed our pool! You can find affordable submersible LED lights online that come with remote controls to change colors and settings. Some even have different light show modes that pulse or fade between colors. The kids felt like they were swimming in a disco!
Place several lights around the pool floor for even coverage, or cluster them in one area for a concentrated glow effect. They’re completely waterproof and safe for pool use. This is definitely one of those investments that you’ll use for multiple parties because the effect is just that spectacular!
Glow In The Dark Balloons

Fill clear balloons with LED balloon lights or insert activated glow sticks before inflating them! These glowing balloons can float on the pool surface, hang around the pool area, or even be tossed around as glowing beach balls. They create such a festive atmosphere!
My favorite trick is to fill clear balloons with mini LED lights that you can buy specifically for balloons. They last for hours and create this beautiful soft glow! You can also insert glow sticks before inflating, though they won’t last quite as long. Either way, the effect is magical!
Float some in the pool and hang others from trees, fences, or your patio cover. The kids at our last party loved batting the floating balloons around the pool – it was like an impromptu game of volleyball with glowing balls! Just make sure to collect all balloon pieces immediately if any pop to keep the pool clean and safe.
Black Light Setup

A black light (UV light) is essential for taking your glow in the dark pool party to the next level! It makes white and neon colors absolutely pop and creates that classic glow party effect. Set up black light bulbs or LED strips around your pool area for maximum glow!
You can buy black light bulbs that screw into regular outdoor light fixtures, or get black light LED strips that you can hang around the pool perimeter. I use both! The combination makes everything fluorescent glow incredibly bright. White t-shirts, teeth, and anything neon becomes super vibrant under black light!
Position your black lights strategically around the pool area so they illuminate both the pool and the surrounding space. This way, the glowing effect continues even when kids hop out for snacks or games. Just make sure all electrical components are safely away from water and properly rated for outdoor use!
Glow In The Dark Beach Balls

Regular beach balls are fun, but glow in the dark beach balls are next-level amazing! You can buy beach balls that are specifically designed to glow, or create your own by using clear inflatable beach balls with glow sticks inside. Either way, they’re perfect for pool games!
At our last glow in the dark pool party, we had about six glowing beach balls bouncing around and the kids played with them nonstop! They invented their own games, from keep-away to trying to balance them on their heads while swimming. The glowing balls are easy to track in the dark, which makes nighttime pool games actually possible!
You can also use these for organized games like glow-in-the-dark water volleyball or pool basketball. The visibility factor makes it so much easier and safer for kids to play games after dark. Plus, they just look super cool floating around and bouncing off the water!
Neon Tablecloths And Party Supplies

Don’t forget about the area around your pool! Deck out your party tables with bright neon tablecloths, plates, cups, and napkins. Under black lights or in the glow of your other decorations, these neon colors will pop like crazy and tie your whole theme together!
I love using neon pink, green, yellow, and orange for everything! The bright colors look amazing during setup when there’s still daylight, and then they really come alive once it gets dark. You can find neon party supplies at most party stores or online, and they’re usually not much more expensive than regular supplies!
Set up your food and snack area with these neon supplies and add some glow sticks around the table as decoration. Everything feels more festive and special when it’s glowing! Plus, the bright colors make it easier for kids to find the snack table in the dark – another practical mom win!
Glowing Pool Toys

Stock up on glow-in-the-dark pool toys or add glow sticks to regular pool toys! Diving rings, floating toys, and pool games all become more exciting when they glow. The kids will have a blast diving for glowing treasures at the bottom of the pool!
You can buy diving toys that are specifically designed to glow, or get creative with regular toys. I’ve attached glow stick bracelets to diving rings, stuffed glow sticks into mesh bags to create glowing sinkers, and even taped waterproof LED lights to pool toys. My boys love the treasure hunt aspect of diving for glowing objects!
This is also great for keeping kids entertained throughout the party. When energy levels start to dip, announce a new diving challenge with glowing toys and watch everyone get excited again! It’s like having a whole new activity ready to go whenever you need it at your glow in the dark pool party!
Glow Stick Chandeliers

Create stunning hanging decorations by making glow stick chandeliers! Use hula hoops as your base and hang activated glow sticks from them using string or fishing line. Hang these over the pool area or patio for a gorgeous glowing canopy effect!
This was one of my favorite DIY projects for our glow in the dark pool party! I used three different sized hula hoops and created a tiered chandelier effect. The glow sticks dangle at different lengths and create this beautiful cascading light effect. It looks complicated but it’s actually super easy to make!
You can make several smaller chandeliers or one large statement piece. Hang them from tree branches, your patio cover, or even a sturdy umbrella stand. They create amazing ambiance and look absolutely gorgeous in photos! Plus, the kids think they’re swimming under a magical glowing canopy!
Neon Tutus And Glow Accessories

Encourage guests to come dressed in neon colors or provide glow accessories when they arrive! Glow stick necklaces, bracelets, headbands, and even neon tutus make everyone feel like part of the glowing fun. It’s like wearing the party!
I always have a basket of glow accessories at the entrance for guests to grab when they arrive. Glow stick necklaces and bracelets are super cheap in bulk, and the kids absolutely love loading up with as many as they can wear! Some of my boys’ friends have even worn neon tutus over their swim trunks – it’s hilarious and adorable!
This is also helpful for keeping track of kids in the dark. When everyone is wearing multiple glow accessories, you can easily count heads and make sure everyone is accounted for. Safety and fun in one simple solution – that’s what I call a perfect glow in the dark pool party idea!
Floating LED Flowers Or Stars

Add some whimsy to your pool with floating LED flowers or stars! These battery-operated decorations float on the water surface and create a dreamy, magical atmosphere. They’re absolutely beautiful and add such an elegant touch to your glow in the dark pool party!
I discovered these floating LED decorations last summer and I’m obsessed! They come in different shapes like flowers, stars, and even flamingos. They change colors slowly and create these gorgeous reflections on the water. Even my rough-and-tumble boys stopped to say how pretty they looked!
Scatter several across the pool surface for a magical effect. They’re durable enough to withstand some splashing but pretty enough to make your party feel special. You can find them online in packs, and they’re reusable for future parties or even just regular evening swims!
Glow In The Dark Slime Station

Set up a glow-in-the-dark slime-making station as a pre-swim activity! Kids can make their own glowing slime to take home as a party favor. It’s a fun activity that fits perfectly with your glow theme and gives early arrivals something to do!
I’ve done this at our last two parties and it’s always a huge hit! You can buy glow-in-the-dark slime kits or make your own using glow-in-the-dark paint mixed into your favorite slime recipe. Set up the station with all the supplies, add-ins like glitter, and small containers for the kids to take their creations home!
This activity is perfect for the beginning of the party while it’s still light enough to see what you’re doing. By the time it gets dark and you’re ready for swimming, the slime is done and the kids can see it glow! Just make sure everyone washes their hands thoroughly before getting in the pool!
Glow Stick Glasses

Hand out glow stick glasses to all your party guests! You can buy pre-made glow stick glasses or create your own using glow stick connectors. They’re fun, festive, and make for amazing party photos! Every kid looks like a glowing superhero!
These are always one of the first things to disappear when I put them out! The kids love wearing them and they create such a fun party vibe. You can get them in different shapes – regular glasses, star-shaped, heart-shaped, or even as funky designs. They’re inexpensive and make everyone feel special!
The glow stick glasses are also practical because they help illuminate kids’ faces a bit, making it easier to identify everyone in the dark. Plus, the photos from your glow in the dark pool party will be absolutely epic with everyone wearing their glowing glasses! It’s one of those small touches that makes a big impact!
Waterproof Glow Sticks Attached To Swim Goggles

Make swimming even more fun by attaching small glow sticks to swim goggles! The kids will look like glowing underwater explorers, and it’s actually helpful for keeping track of who’s who in the pool. Plus, it just looks super cool!
I use small glow stick bracelets and attach them to the sides of goggles with waterproof tape or by threading them through the goggle straps. My boys think they look like deep-sea divers or superheroes! The glow sticks don’t interfere with the goggles’ function but add that extra special glow effect!
This is especially great if you have multiple kids swimming at once. Different colored glow sticks on different kids’ goggles make it easy to identify everyone quickly. It’s a safety feature disguised as a fun decoration – the best kind of party planning!
Glow In The Dark Jello Cups

Serve glow-in-the-dark jello cups as a fun party snack! Make jello using tonic water (which glows under black light) or add glow-in-the-dark food coloring. Serve them in clear cups so everyone can see the glowing effect!
This is such a fun treat that fits perfectly with your theme! I make several batches in different neon colors – usually lime green, orange, and berry blue. Under the black lights, they look absolutely incredible! The kids are always amazed that they’re eating something that glows!
You can make them ahead of time and keep them in the fridge until party time. Serve them in clear plastic cups and add some whipped cream on top if you want to get fancy. They’re refreshing, fun, and totally Instagram-worthy! Just make sure to check that all ingredients are safe and approved for consumption if you’re using specialty products!
Glowing Hula Hoops

Create glowing hula hoops by inserting glow sticks into clear tubing or buying LED hula hoops! Kids can use them for hula hooping contests, as floating pool decorations, or even as targets for pool games. They’re versatile and super fun!
LED hula hoops are absolutely worth the investment if you can swing it – they’re rechargeable and last for years! But you can also make DIY versions using clear tubing from the hardware store and glow sticks. Either way, glowing hula hoops are mesmerizing to watch and fun to play with at your glow in the dark pool party!
Float them in the pool as targets for diving games, use them on the deck for a hula contest, or just let kids play with them however they want. My boys have used them as steering wheels for imaginary cars, as portals to other dimensions, and as glowing jump ropes. The creativity is endless!
Neon Streamers And Decorations

Deck out your entire pool area with neon streamers, banners, and hanging decorations! The more neon you add, the more amazing everything looks when the lights go down. Create a canopy effect over the pool area or wrap streamers around railings and fences!
I go a little crazy with decorations for our glow parties – and honestly, the kids love it! Neon streamers are super affordable and make a huge visual impact. I twist different colors together and hang them from every available surface. Under black lights, they look absolutely incredible!
Don’t forget about areas away from the pool too! Decorate the pathway to the pool, the bathroom area, and the snack station. You want the whole party space to feel like a glowing wonderland. It’s all about creating that immersive experience that makes your glow in the dark pool party truly unforgettable!
Glow In The Dark Freeze Dance Pool Game

Organize a glow-in-the-dark freeze dance game in the pool! Play music and have kids dance and splash around, then when the music stops, everyone has to freeze. Anyone who moves is out! With everyone wearing glow accessories, it’s easy to spot who’s moving!
This game is always a hit at our parties! I use a waterproof speaker and play upbeat music that the kids love. The combination of swimming, dancing, and trying to freeze while floating is hilarious to watch! My boys and their friends laugh so hard they can barely stay frozen!
You can give out glow stick prizes to the winners or just play for fun. It’s a great way to get everyone involved and active. Plus, it’s one of those games that works for a wide age range – even the older kids get into it at a glow in the dark pool party! The glowing accessories make it extra special and easier to referee in the dark!
Making Memories That Glow!
Planning a glow in the dark pool party doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive! With these twenty ideas, you can mix and match to create the perfect glowing celebration that fits your budget and your space. The key is layering different types of glow elements – from floating lights to wearable accessories to glowing decorations – to create that magical, immersive experience!
As a mom, I can tell you that the effort you put into creating this special experience is so worth it when you see the joy on the kids’ faces! My boys still talk about our glow parties months later, and their friends always ask when we’re having another one. There’s something about the combination of swimming, darkness, and glowing lights that creates pure magic and memories that last forever. So grab some glow sticks, charge up those LED lights, and get ready to throw the most amazing glow in the dark pool party ever!
